A Long and Winding Road
Well they say a change is as good as a rest and I’ve sure had a big change over the last 12 months. Having moved continents for the 4th time in my life this year, I’ve now settled in the wonderful city of Vancouver, British Columbia. So there’s the change but I’m really not sure how restful it’s been? As if that change wasn’t big enough for me I’m also learning to design and code web sites, not too much rest there either. So lets start again. A change is not as good as a rest but it sure is exciting, crazy, exhilarating, frustrating and above all hugely satisfying.
A web developer, me? Yes really, I can hardly believe it myself. My son suggested it to me, as, coming from the same gene pool, he thought I would grasp it fairly quickly and enjoy it as much as he does. He’s a whizz mind you and any thoughts of me getting to those dizzy heights are way off down a long and winding road. That said, I’m full of enthusiasm and ready to embark on this new journey of discovery. This time staying put on North American soil.
So follow me, if you will, on this intrepid journey, as I map out my progress, achievements and disappointments along the way. I’ll write it as I see it, warts ‘n all, you can laugh with me, pity me, encourage and help me or just scratch your head in disbelief. You never know, you may learn something or be inspired to follow the same path.
So, take your marks, set ………..
Welcome to the world of web development! Lots of hard work, but totally worth it to craft something useful out of nothing but code. You’ve got a great guide in Andy.
Have you always worked with computers and the internet?
Hi Shaun
I’ve always loved technology and gadgets, I had a computer pretty early on when I was much sharper and more handsome than Andy was …. how things have changed 🙂 I have never delved into coding before and I’m loving it, although I’m nowhere near the warp speed of the nipper. A long way to go yet.
This is so awesome. As someone who has always wanted to try coding (and has attended a couple Ruby-on-Rails-for-newbies classes), I’m incredibly impressed. It was really difficult for me, but maybe I could give it another shot too! 🙂
You rock. Cheers to this and other journeys like it!
Hey thanks Jenny
There were definitely times when I could have thrown in the towel! You need to just dig in then and get through it, Im really enjoying it all now. There is so much more to learn, in fact I’m sure you never stop learning.
Give it another go, it’ll be worth it in the end. 🙂
